Things you can relate to if you are a Chennai ponnu

You probably were/are an engineering student, yet you have still not mastered the art of making the “V-shaped” pinned dupatta without any help, and that’s actually because you don’t want to.

*You love your “malli poo” and can carry if off so well.

*You’re in the hottest city yet you are always fully dressed, from head to toe.

*You don’t think you can ever drape the saree. It is still amma who does it for you. And it is still Maya from “Khakha Khakha” who stays in your head when it comes to sarees.

*Rajini and Kamal will always be “RAJINI” and “KAMAL”. You are a fan of one of them for sure.

*Salwar Kameez or sarees or 3/4ths, you will never feel out of place in Chennai as you would in the other cities. You find all kinds of people here, where ever you go.

*If you are in your 20s, you would have seen huge malls rise up right in front of your eyes.

*Whether it’s a date or an evening out with family or friends, Elliots or Marina stays at the top of the list.

*By now you know that the traffic police won’t catch you, and that’s because you are a girl.

           * At the end of a busy day you look like a truck, with kajal and mascara smudged all around your eyes.

*The one art you have mastered is to completely cover your face with your dupatta, showing just your eyes, when travelling around the city. (Jangiri style :D)

*Idly, dosa and rasam beats lasagna, pasta and burgers, any day.

*You have started embracing your complexion. You no longer wanna be fair. Dark is beautiful! and you adore Nandita Das for reminding you this.

*If you are in your 20s, you would have seen Chennai transform into a fashion hub. Kids no longer wear the kind of clothes you wore when you were their age.

*Buying accessories at Ranganathan Street is the best shopping experience. The boss-like feeling after the winning the bargain is just impossible to match.

*Among all the rock, pop and hip hop in your playlist, there is a special place for Ilayaraja that surfaces during the rains and cool breezy full-moon nights.
